Welcome to the forth and final playlist in this series. When we started this project, COVID-19 was spreading across the U.S., and the country was shutting down. Our lives went from 100 miles per hour to a slow crawl in an instant.
Now, as our cities and states are starting to open up, we hope that we will all take a cautious approach and walk, not run.
In that spirit, this playlist includes songs that all include the word “walk” in the title. It covers the full spectrum of what we’re feeling right now. Katrina & The Waves gets us dancing and Walking on Sunshine, while a beautiful deep cut of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGheee’s Walking My Blues Away reminds us that even when things are tough, you can be sure that “the sun’s gonna shine on my backdoor someday.”
Other songs reminded us of the importance of staying connected to those we love. Whether it’s a husband and wife, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, committing to Walk Through This Life together, or in incomparable Mahalia Jackson asking Jesus to Walk With Me, we hear we are all in this together. Pandemic or not, as people and citizens, we all need each other.
When things have gotten stale, and our daily schedules of Zoom calls and homeschooling has us feeling down, it’s great to be reminded by a friend like Lou Reed to let loose and Take a Walk on The Wild Side. Perhaps too, when you least expect it, love will arrive, as it did for Frank Sinatra in Love Walked In.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these playlists. I’ve enjoyed sharing these songs with you.
I hope you’ve found a song or two that gets you dancing around the kitchen or feeling grateful for everyone and everything you have.
Peace and love,
Paul
